About the Artist
My painting style is defined by variety, color, and a devotion to the effect of light; the eternal but fleeting play of light on all things.
I love to paint en plein air (outdoors) because of the light, and I also love to paint natural light in interiors, because of the light.
My primary medium is oil paint, either on canvas or wood panel. I find that oil paint offers the most intense color experience, due to the ability to build layers of paint and the resulting rich depth of color.
Watercolor is my second love, because of the inherent transparency and sense of light.
I am a native of northern Wisconsin, to which I attribute my appreciation of the natural world. I've lived in California for most of my adult life, and I consider it home.
